Friday March 28.
we have been here a few times in the last few months but we are back to ride the train to the Grand Canyon. We left Needles at about 8 am and arrived here at about 1 pm. a few stops along the way. we got checked in, got our tickets for the train, bus and hotel. then headed out to look for …. birds.
our spot for the weekend
did not find any new birds but did see a few animals
this guy was really big
In town we stopped at a fun Beer and Wine place for beer and cheese!
Then we went to the Sultana the Worlds most famous bar?
cool night, both the furnace and electric heater were running.
Saturday March 29: woke up to temp at 28… brrrrrr….. glad the furnace was working.
Caught the train at 9:15
but they had a Western Shoot up first…
on the train
it is about 60 miles and 2 and a quarter hours. so we need to be entertained
we arrived at the station
our first look at the Grand Canyon. pictures does not do it justice
we took a bus ride
then walked the trail of time,
dinner at the Arizona room
was too spicy for me but Eric loved his salmon
we took the shuttle buses to the best place to see the sunset… too many clouds but still beautiful
Sunday March 30: our room looks over the rim…
it was very windy and cold day.. we took the shuttle to the west end of the rim trail and walked a lot of the way back. by noon the wind had really picked up and it was cooold.
time to get back on the train to Williams. more entertainment and a train robbery!
but the Marshall was on the train and hot on their tails.
Back in Williams time for a little walk and dinner
we had a wonderful time at the Grand Canyon. we were disappointed that we did not see the California Condor but plan on returning next year… we did get one new bird a Rufus Crowned Sparrow!
It is suppose to be windy tomorrow but we are only going 40 miles to Flagstaff…
We rode that train last year and enjoyed it. Then we moved the RV to the Grand Canyon campground and spent several days there. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Isn't the Canyon grand?
ReplyDeleteJohn and Carol, the Canyon is spectacular! we had never seen it before so it was even more special that we seen it together. we are hoping to make a return trip next year to spend a few more days,
