Thursday March 13, 2014: we began our weekend with a quick game of golf. We did better than last week, I actually broke 40! If I didn’t have two bad holes I would have matched Eric! my putting was a bit better than his!
part of our better golf game is because Practice makes perfect and the other part is that the grass is growing in! when we first came here the ground was very dry and brown, now it is kind of green! I finally retired by old (1979) golf shoes and bought new ones. maybe next week I will match Eric’s score.
we stopped in Laughlin for a little gambling and lunch at the Claim Jumper. Eric had never eaten there before so we thought we would give it a try. Not only was it very very good it was very inexpensive. I had the best Chicken Pot Pie in a long time, Eric had to help me eat it so we could take half of his wonderful Cashew Chicken Salad sandwich to the motel with us for dinner.
We then checked in to our motel
then off to explore a few sites, our first site was Katherine Mine. a mine that had produced gold a long time ago.
there are all kinds of metal cans left in the debris. I guess they thought 100 years ago it would disintegrate!
we headed to the water: Looking through our binoculars Eric kept saying “is that a gopher?” I kept saying “No it’s a stick”. Finally I stopped to take a closer look and lo and behold He was Right!
not sure what this bug is but it is kind of cute
We thought we needed a little fire to eat our dinner by so we headed to a picnic area to watch the sunset. it was a bit cloudy but still beautiful
we met a couple from the UP of Michigan. they just got here a few days ago! what were they thinking! should have been here since December!
our room in the motel is very nice, old but clean with a great shower!
Friday: took a trip into Bullhead city for breakfast before taking the patio boat out.
we found a floating outhouse! we could use one on Long Lake
It was a bit breezy when we were driving into the wind, hard to sun bath
we found a secluded beach to hang out on
time to try the new snacks!
The chicken and waffles tasted more like maple syrup than chicken. the hickory smoked peanuts were pretty good
Of course someone has to go into the 50 deg water!
OK now that it is warm sunbathing can take place
Headed into Laughlin for a bit of dinner and fun. On our way we came across these guys
St. Paddy’s day celebration in full force in Laughlin:
Lots of music, food and fun. No winners here on the gambling front! we are about 7 miles from Laughlin so not a bad night time drive.
Saturday: We extended our stay at the motel for one more night. We went for a morning hike before it gets too hot. found this cave, Eric would have gone in it if he was 40 years younger, I on the other hand would never go in. Winder is back, winds at 25-30 mph with gusts a bit higher. glad we went on the boat yesterday.
another beach day
then back to Laughlin for dinner etc..
we went to Casa Serrano which is one of our favorite places in this area
they even have Victoria on Draft!
the St Paddy’s celebration was still going on. listened to a few bands, had a few beers and walked a lot!
Moon over Laughlin
another beautiful night in the desert!
Sunday: before checking out we headed out for a short hike down by the river. Then on into Bullhead City to do our weekly shopping.. back home to do laundry, mail, cleaning etc….
we really enjoyed our weekend at Katherine Landing. If we were ever in this area we would definitely come here again. the RV park did not look too good but the hotel and boat are worth the return trip. suppose to hit 91 tomorrow… only two more work weeks! we were hoping the really hot weather would wait until after we left.
