Monday March 24, 2014: Today was our last trash run. It was a pretty routine run. Temp above 90 so we tried to get most of it done before lunch. We did find one pig snare that the “Pig Guy” left accidently. We were lucky that there was not a pig in the snare!
Tuesday: today is fencing day! we began our tour here with fencing and now we end it with fencing! pretty hot day but all is good in the desert.
someone cut the fence so they could drive on the refuge. there is hundreds of miles of BLM land they can drive on but… there is always one or two that have to break the rules.
Wednesday: today was our Volunteer Appreciation Pot Luck luncheon. we had a great turnout, even a special visitor:
a baby Great Horned Owl was found on a local course. they will take it to a rehabilitation vet.
Daryl and David did the cooking:
we had lots of very good side dishes
the staff:
the volunteers from both Havasu WLR and Bill Williams WLR:
a great bunch of people to work with and to have fun with! we will miss the area but it is time to move along.
Before coming here I had very low expectations about the area and now that we are leaving I am greatly impressed. there was a lot to do, see and experience. the work was good, learned a few things (including how to text), met some great people, ate some great food and had a wonderful time. No bugs, No humidity and great weather made this place a great experience. Although we are not volunteering next year we might stop by to say Hello to our new friends.
another chapter is coming to an end. but I expect we have a few more chapters before it is all done…
We head out to Williams on Friday. we plan on being there until Monday or Tuesday.
Awwwww, over already!!! It is now Friday and you are on your way. Of course the trip home will be a whole new experience to blog.
