We left Kansas early on Saturday as it was our longest drive at 270 miles. The weather cooperated and was not too windy. They are calling for high winds on Sunday and Monday, so we thought it best to leave on Saturday. Again our trip was uneventful but this time without any touristy stops. We took I29 south until we could cross over to Nebraska onto Hwy 75. We did see our first Walmart in over 900 miles! We stopped there for a leg break.
We arrived at about 2 pm at:
full hook ups and shower houses open! took a nice hike after we got settled in for the night. Hot dogs with garden tomatoes and garden potato’s on the grill! perfect night for a campfire. not too cold or windy. listened to a little Honky Tonk on our favorite Reserve Wi radio station WOJB..
Sunday, time to change the clocks back.. very windy with huge gusts, so glad we are not on the road. Went to the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge for a bit of hiking and birding. On the way we went through Hartford KS… don’t want to get picked up by the police here! see that ball and chain?
We are in the land of hedge balls.. at home they charge about $1.50 for a medium sized one, here they are all over the ground. if this one hit you on the head it would probably knock you out!
we gathered about a half dozen to put under the RV when we get to Calif. we used them in South Texas and did not have any critters in the RV. not sure if it really works but why not?
will attempt to head out tomorrow for Oklahoma. about 200 miles. right now we have gusts over 40mph, but it is suppose to subside tomorrow.. If the winds are high we will stay put for another day.
