we headed out on Wed Nov 20 at about 8:45 for Homolovi Ruins State Park near Winslow AZ. Our GPS said 123 miles and less than 2 hours. Well.. we ended up with 150 miles and just under 6 hours. We got distracted at:

it was an overcast and rainy day, but still so beautiful

ancient towns

petroglyphs:

some beautiful petrified trees:

We finally arrived at the state park:

Our site is very nice, with clean warm showers and bathrooms.
took a quick hike to one of the ruin sites. we have seen signs about mountain lions etc but never Quicksand!

there are thousands of pottery shards in the ruins, you can touch but do not take..

quiet evening with a campfire!
Thursday Nov 21:
another hike to another ruin site

we have been looking for Golden Eagles. finally found 2 of them!

we found a Green Bay Packer Fan from Arizona! the inside of his vehicle was all decked out with GB stuff!

we headed to the Meteor impact site about 30 miles from our campground.
to us it was worth the $16 per person

we had a great tour guide but it started to rain so our tour was cut short.
Time to go into Winslow for lunch, we ended up at Falcon Family Restaurant, I had the chicken fried steak (the best ever), Eric had a patty melt that was wonderful with real fresh homemade french fries.
Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona

Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me!
next onto see the one of the Giants of the Trail of the Whispering Giants
Whispering Giants are a series of public art sculptures depicting Native Americans and Canadian First People by Peter Wolf Toth. He has donated a sculpture to each U.S. state and Canadian Province with a few donated outside North America. there is actually one in Hayward Wi and Two Harbors Mn. we never heard of them before we got to Winslow. we need to find all 74 now…
we are heading to Laughlin this rainy and maybe snowy Friday morning. We are hoping to get past Flagstaff early this morning. Our trip to Laughlin is suppose to be 250 miles… who knows how long it will take us?
