We had a pretty uneventful trip from Palm Springs to Needles. About 180 miles took us about 4.5 hours. We did see a few places to stop that might have been interesting but did not..
Our site is a large concrete pad with a very large canopy.
there is an empty site next to ours, they usually have 2 couples but because of budgets etc we are the only have one!
We met with our supervisor after setting up, he gave us the nickel tour of the compound, Office, Law Enforcement, Chips,
laundry/storage/refrigerator/full freezer/library
and fitness center, trying to get my 15,000 steps in for the day.
It is a bit different than ORPS, no neighbors, very little street noise, no flowers, no pool, very small fitness room, but we can hear a train in the distance, we have a very nice canopy, we do have birds but no citrus trees, we have mountains but not as close, we can see three states from our site, prime time TV comes on at 6:00 pm instead of 8:00 pm, we are close to the river, cheap golf rates and a few more differences but it is our home for the next 3 months and I expect we will enjoy it..
Friday: went for a walk to see what’s near us, then to check out a few golf courses then shopping in Bullhead city. kind of like being back in Wis. it takes us a half day to go shopping, well in Wis it takes us all day! We did find a 3 par golf course and a nice 18 hole by the river. hoping to golf at least once a week.. we shall see.
Saturday: chores…. tried to get the satellite set up but no luck.. went for a drive to see the area, found the house with the Tamales… need to get there when they are open. there are a lot of murals that I will attempt to take pictures of but in the meantime:
Eric has never heard of Spike, who is Snoopy’s cousin, who is from Needles! I expected to see Spike statues all over town but so far have only seen murals..
We did a little birding and checked out a grocery store.. with an in house bakery.. Obviously Eric is very happy.
Sunday: went to the AVI casino to get tickets for a concert, book a room and watch the Packers vs 49ers.
it was pretty windy today, felt like we were back in South Texas. Did not stay too long at the casino, too smoky and the machines were not kind to us and I had a crock pot full of Chicken A La King that needed a bit of attention.
tomorrow is our first work day.
Do I detect a swimming beach behind you Kathy? Is that the Colorado?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a beach and it is the Colorado... you get an A+!!! this is at the casino, just north of us in south Laughlin, not near the other casinos. we are going to stay there on the 18th and if we have the 20th off of work we will stay there on the 19th too!
DeleteGlad you arrived safe and sound. It does sound different, but I think you are not surprised. The two of you will create adventure everywhere you go, so have at it. Look forward to seeing and hearing all about it as you dig in. That canopy would be covered with snow here. Yesterday -16, but a warm up today of -7 this morning. I believe going up to a -1 this afternoon. I have tried sending some of it to my sister in Florida and she said the temperature dropped 30 degree's so it must be working. Do you want some?
